Ok so basically between 1913 or so until the current there’s been a lot of strife in the world at varying levels at different times. Basically some big ones are World War I (hereafter referred to as WWI) and World War II (ditto except with a II). Lots of acts against humanity were committed and some political stuff happened. Let’s discuss them shall we?

Countries always want to control land and in the 40’s Japan got pretty zealous and wanted China because they were stuck with a crappy archipelago. This happened to be during WWII. During this time some people started introducing the idea of communism, a.k.a. let’s share all our stuff but we still need a leader to set it up and ideally he’ll just give up all his power afterwards right? Yeah, no, see Hitler and Gorbachev. Some people decided they didn’t like all the oppression and acts against humanity (namely killing a lot of them) and decided to react but in a peaceful manner. One of these great people is named Ghandi; one instance that he is famous for was his Salt March. A lot of this political stuff was flying around during this time and continues today. The Vietnam for example was a pretty rough time for America politically and globally too. The hippies were not all about that war, or conflict, or whatever. In the document it explains that there was pretty much no sympathy for the Diem and news coverage of Vietnam varied throughout the world.

Lots of really scary stuff happened during this time. The attack on Pearl Harbor, which yanked America into WWII, was a travesty. The fireball in the picture is incredible and morbid. The Shanghai Attack was also pretty gruesome where many a civilian was killed and just left where they lie. And of course we have some of the suckiest moments of all time; namely, the Holocaust and Hiroshima. When we dropped the A-bomb on Japan it was really unfair because we killed millions of civilians during a war, which was horrible. The Holocaust of course, mostly referring to the genocide of the Jews and Hitler’s yearning for more land for his peoples, namely the Aryan race, was one of the worst things in history.

Then of course with every bad thing there has to be a time of attempted change and wanton for peace. During WWII the Allies held a meeting referred to as the Yalta Conference, which was basically a PTA meeting. Stalin, F.D.R., and Churchill (who was a badass) all met up and were affectionately dubbed “The Big Three.” Then after WWII we had the Cold War, which is a farce because nothing even happened except the U.S.S.R. and America had a staring contest and we kind of won. Something happened with Cuba, lots of communism, and an Iron Curtain. Before the Cold War and after WWII the beginnings of NATO were established and the NATO Treaty was enacted. It expressed that the countries involved would become a gang and any other country outside of their clique that decided to attack one or more of them would get ganged up on. Also they put in a couple lines about how they wanted to provide and ensure peace among all peoples. Lots of other changes were going on around the world though, like certain peoples not wanting other certain peoples to have a country of their own. For instance in one picture involving Arabs opposing the Balfour Declaration there is a man with a sign assumedly saying some nasty words about the fellow. They did not want the Ottoman Empire to be split up and put into different corners of the room or a country to be established for the Jewish community in Palestine. Now a days we have several International Organizations primarily trying to keep the peace and involving several different countries because the U.N. just wasn’t good enough for everyone. The U.N. is like a high school and all the other acronyms are the different groups of kids that make them up.

Basically there is a constant varying amount of turmoil in the world and usually following a big bout of it there is a certain amount of change usually affecting the entire globe if a big enough event occurred. If not it’s at least mentioned on the news a hundred times and then there are talks for 15 years about how it could be prevented and another few years pretending they’re actually trying to fix it. I’m not going to look for an article, but if I did it would be some vague thing about Iraq and how it’s similar to Vietnam and something about even currently we commit acts against humanity and the amount of political stuff that still goes on.
